Currently, the majority of sessions are held virtually via a HIPAA-compliant platform. Therapy patients are required to utilize video for sessions; coaching and consultation work can be performed either via video (preferred) or by phone. In person sessions can be arranged in my NYC office periodically (every 6 to 8 weeks) if needed.

That's a great question but a tough one to answer without more information about you and what's bringing you to therapy. Because each person has different issues and goals for therapy, it will be different depending on the individual. I tailor my therapeutic approach to your specific needs and in our early sessions together, we will spend time collaborating on your treatment plan, including your goals and objectives and how we might best work together to accomplish them.

Everyone’s circumstances are unique to them and the length of time therapy takes depends on your desire for personal development, your commitment and the factors that are driving you to seek therapy in the first place. Psychotherapy can be either short-term or long–term. Some individuals or couples want to focus on a specific issue or target specific symptoms and may need coaching through that specific issue. Others may want to work through more complex life issues in order to attain a better understanding of themselves or to achieve their desired goals.

Having friends and family to talk to is so important, but different than talking to a therapist. A mental health professional can help you approach your situation in a new way– teach you new skills, gain different perspectives, listen to you without judgment or expectations and help you listen to yourself. Furthermore, therapy is completely confidential. You won’t have to worry about others “knowing my business.” Also, even thought they want to help, sometimes friends and family can get triggered by your feelings and hearing about your problems. As part of my training as a clinical psychologist, I'm able to listen and stay connected, even when you are feeling overwhelmed by your situation.

Not at all. People who ask for help know when they need it and have the courage to do so. Everyone needs help now and then. In our work together, I’ll help you explore and identify your strengths and how to implement them to reduce the influence of the problems you are facing.

Medication can be a helpful and effective tool to address mental health issues; however, in my experience it's best used in conjunction with psychotherapy. Our therapy work together is designed to explore and unpack the problems you are experiencing and expand on your strengths to can help you accomplish your personal goals. If medication is needed to support that process, that is something we would discuss in our sessions and I would facilitate referral to a psychopharmacologist. You would then meet with that provider and, with consent, we would all work together on your treatment.
